2026 spring comes as scheduled

4-16-2026

Just for the record of today, this is what it looks like this morning in my yard. It's beautiful and refreshing, as if to remember one of it's owners who had passed on on this day years back.

Happy Naw-Ruz!

Last weekend (3/15- 3/16) our area experienced an unusual deep frozen temperature (13-18F for two nights). All those brave flowers opened at that time as recorded in this blog below were frozen dead. I had planed to cut some beautiful daffodils in my garden for decorating my Naw-Rúz table. But this deep-dive frozen temperature killed almost all of them. I have never seen anything like this for the past 30+ years living here though we often had early spring temperature drop. I heard many friends said the same. But, there is always a "but",  unbelievably,  a few flowers survived. I believe it was because a prayer I said in advance to ask God to save some for my Naw-Rúz table. God is always generous in answering our prayers, however trivial. Thank you God! I just like to write down this episode in my life for future reference so I won't forget to Whom I should attribute my thanks for the blessings I received freely.

2025 Spring Is Special

Every spring is special, isn't it? But this year's spring is specially special from my personal angle and from the angle of the world at large in my opinion. You may not agree with me, but it's ok, each of us is entitled to have our own perspective.

First from my personal angle. my older son has finally brought his wife and my first and only grandson (so far) for the first visit in Missouri where I live and where he grew up. My grandson and I had good time to pick some wild flowers and wild edibles. We had fun.

And as usual (this is not special for this year), my flowering trees were blooming profusely.

Here comes the special part for the world at large.

On April 20th this year, it's a true spring day in our area. It is the last day of our average frost day. It is also  the first day of Baha'i Riḍván, one of the most important Baha'i festivity season which will last for 12 days. On this day each year, a Riḍván message will be issued by the Universal House of Justice (Situated in Haifa Israel) of Baha'i Faith which will guide the Baha'is worldwide for this coming year.

Riḍván Garden in Akko Israel

So far there is no special yet. But the following coincidences are not happened to every year spring:

April 20th: Judaism the last day of Passover
April 20th: Christian Easter
April 20th: Baha'i Faith the first day of Riḍván

I don't know how often this synchronicity happened in the past, or will happen in the future. But it happened this year which makes this year spring very special, because I don't believe coincidence at all. All that happened have meaning behind it!

So

Happy Passover to Jews!
Happy Easter to Christians!
Happy Riḍván to Baha'is!

Does this mean anything special? I believe so though I don't know what it is yet. A new beginning of ? Let's wait and see!

And on this special day April 20th 2025, a rainbow showed up in our area:

On the special day of God, there is always a rainbow involved.

The Chosen, the Witness and the Banner - An outsider’s perspective of the Book of Revelation

1. Introduction - The Hint

More than 30 years ago in the spring of 1990, when I was studying in Prague and life was at its lowest point, one evening as I was walking on the street deep in my thought about life and felt its desperation, a group of students handed me a Bible. That was the very first Bible I got hold of. I was very curious and had this ambition to understand it. I decided to read the last book "Revelation" to see how it ended and to unlock the mystery of why so many people for so long have held this Book so Holy and adhering to its teachings ardently. Little did I know that the Revelation was the most mysterious book of the Bible and puzzled many before me and will still puzzle many after me. I failed so miserably. I couldn't understand a word of it. The only thing I remembered about The Revelation was the last word "Amen". Since then, I have never tried to open The Revelation again. Though I occasionally listened to YouTube videos about the Revelation, none of them made sense to me. Something was missing. I couldn't put everything together as a consistent and coherent picture to satisfy my curious mind.

Since the time I first opened the Bible, much of my life has changed, especially about my belief in God. I grew up in China and lived half my life as an atheist. Then also in Prague a classmate from Egypt taught me the concept of God that changed my atheist perspective. And later in the USA I became a baptized Christian, studied the New Testament of Bible with Christian friends (but not Revelation), eventually I became a believer in Baha’i faith.

In the past few years, for whatever the reason, I started to listen to the teachings of Rabbis of Judaism and found it very interesting and rewarding. I learned Israel’s history, their patriarchs Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob (Israel), their slavery in Egypt, their exodus from it, their glorious times during King Daivd and Soloman, their first Temple destroyed, their first captivity to Babylon, their return to Jerusalem through Cyrus the Great and most importantly their prophets. In addition to Jewish history, I also learned via Baha’i literature about the end time, about the timing of the Return in the framework of Islam. Recently, with the world seeming to go mad (Covid, Ukraine-Russian war and Israel-Gaza war), conflicts occurred in many parts of the world, many end of time theories flowing around, I decided to open the book of Revelation and read it again. I didn’t expect anything different from the first time when I read it 30 years ago. One of the evenings when I was reading the section of the seventh trumpet, a few verses caught my attention: Rev. 12:1-2 and Rev. 12:5-6. It talked about “A great sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet and a crown of twelve stars on her head. She was pregnant and cried out in pain as she was about to give birth.”  and “She gave birth to a son, a male child, who will rule all the nations…”, and “The woman fled into the desert … where she might be taken care of for 1,260 days.” (Emphasis added).  I said to myself: wait minute, this sounds so much like talking of Islamic and Baha’i revelation and interaction between them. The moon is the main sign for Islam and in the Shia branch of Islam there were a total of Twelve Imams and Islam started in the desert and spread mainly in desert regions. The Baha’i faith started in the Islamic country of Persia and was initiated in the year 1260 of Islamic calendar (1844 of Gregorian Calendar) and Baha’is believe its teachings are for all the nations of the world. Is it even possible that the Christian Bible talked about something or anything of Islamic related? Could this be just coincident? Is there any coincidence in the Words of God ever or Is God trying to reveal to us something totally different from the current general Christian understanding of this last chapter of His Holy Book? “Revelation” after all means to reveal. If God is trying to reveal to us, why did He write this book in a way so confusing? Or is it because we have been interpreting this book from a too narrow viewpoint so causing the confusion ourselves?  With this new epiphany and new questions, I did some digging into the whole book of Revelation and had so many new discoveries since. The following content in this article is the summary of what I have come to understand about the book of Revelation. Of course, I have enough humility to know these are only my own perspective and with high possibility it could be totally wrong. And there are still many blanks I couldn’t fill. I decided to write them down and share with others in hope that this may inspire some seekers who have the same aspiration to understand God’s word and who have much more knowledge in this area than me to carry out further investigation from a new and wider angle and together we may construct a more satisfactory answer to the mystery of the Book of Revelation.

Spring Once Again

 Spring always comes on time, does it? I have this unwarranted anxiety that spring may not come back to us one of these years just like a book read long time ago in which spring was lost in her way back. Luckily this year our spring did find her way back to us and bring back life in every corner of the world around us. I could not imagine if there is no spring to look forward to, how could we pass through those gray, cold and damp days in winter?

A heartfelt welcome back, spring!

on Spring Garden of 2019

Spring has always been my favorite season. This year is no exception. Somehow I feel this year's spring is prettier than past years, or is it because I am more aware of its beauty?

Spring with all its energy putting colors on every trees and bushes always fascinated me. Where did it get the energy? And how do all the plants know when to respond to the call of spring?

Last night, there was severe storm passing through our area. It might have been scary when it was here, but when it's gone, it left the area so refreshed and so green. I love the morning after a night storm.

This spring we had so many heavy rains and storms passing through our area, left the soil soaked and trees green. Sometimes rainbows were sent to us, giving life hope and joy.

Lovers of mankind

2014 January

With the blizzard raging outside, I am cozily setting myself inside my warm home and reading a wonderful book: “Through the Mists”. Oh, what a pleasure to read a book so intriguing and soul inspiring. Here is but one quote from the book and if I had the space I would have quoted the whole book:
“Which of all the denominations, or religions if you will, contribute the highest percentage of the redeemed?”
“We recognize but one religion here (note: here means hereafter), that is – Love; and all its disciples have but one denomination – lovers of mankind. No one of all the man-made religions holds a monopoly of this attribute. But earnest and conscientious followers of it may be found in all.
Its worship is service to humanity;
its litany, noble deed,
its prayers, tears of sympathy;
its sermons, simple lives, known and read of all men;
its songs are lullabies to soothe the broken-hearted;
its faith the immolation of self;
its hope – Heaven.
This is the only religion which can write the passports of heaven for the pilgrims of earth.”

On Faith

Excerpt from "God's World V1"

If we set aside faith, what is there left? We know that we did not create ourselves.  We have no reason to believe that we selected the date and place and manner of our birth. We know that we have nothing to say about the hour of our passing. We are unfamiliar with the forces of Nature in which we live and of which we are a part.  We are but fragments in the affairs of our own governments. Everywhere we turn, we meet conditions beyond our control, and yet we are confident that tomorrow will find us well and happy and successful.

Often this confidence, so far as reason and judgment go, is based on a few men in charge of great affairs.  The employee in an office has faith that his employer will keep the business going. The employer, who is in debt to the bankers, is confident that the bankers will see him through. The bankers, who depend upon the the depositors, are certain that no sudden demand will be made upon them for the deposits.

And yet believing in other mortals, we find contentment and faith.  And if we could gather together all the mortals on the earth and all those in the spirit-world, and added up the sum-total of their powers, the result would not be comparable with the power of God Almighty even in the ratio of an atom compared with all of the matter that comprises our world.

If we are not to have faith in the Cause that gave us life, then how can we have faith in anybody or anything? We see honest and morally good and dependable people in our own neighborhoods, in our cities, in our countries; but the greatest goodness and the greatest dependability of any man are not to be mentioned in the same breath with the goodness and greatness and dependability of the Creator.

No man, or combination of men, brought this universe into being.  Yet we find ourselves believing in men. We find many times that our trust was not belied - it was well placed. Suppose we had proportionate faith in God: Would we not be qualified to regard any hardship, any obstacle, as all right, as perfectly natural, as presaging some great good that would come at some future time, but that previously was not revealed to us?
...
Few of us store up a sufficient food supply to last us many days, and yet we are not fearful that we shall go without food.  Millions and tens of millions and hundreds of millions pass along earth's mortal trail living "from hand to mouth," from day to day. Somehow they get through. Often when they seemed to have reached the very end of their resources, something occurred that gave them a new opportunity.

No matter what our claims may be, irrespective of how much weight we may put upon our powers of reason, if we but pause to analyze ourselves and our fellow-beings, we shall make the discovery that of all the qualities in mankind, faith stands at the top.

The helpless babe has greater faith in his mother than the greatest man ever had in God. Life without faith would not be life. Reason and logic may seem to prove certain contentions and theories. But where it satisfies one person,  faith is carrying millions of others through the trials of life safely and securely.
...
Sometimes the trials of life are severe. Things go wrong.  Hardship pile upon hardship, handicap follows handicap, sickness and loss of property and the death of dear ones make life a fearful burden. And yet when one's faith is sufficient, even though one may bend under the blows and be prostrated with sorrow, there is still that loyal belief that eventually things will work out - that sometime, somewhere and in some manner things will be different.

The greater one's belief in God and His Natural Law, the greater blessings one is to receive throughout one's life.

On Mercy, Justice and Forgiveness

Excerpts from “Through the Mist” by R.J. Lees
“It is a sad mistake to say that death levels all men, and that this life (life after death) is a new one, while the record of the old one has been wiped out with the sponge of death. All life is a continuation of that which had gone before; and entering here you have but turned over the page to commence another chapter, the story and plot are the same.

“In this you will find that the mistakes of the past are rectified, overdue accounts have to be settled, and compensation awarded to those who have unjustly suffered. Men are here weighed in the balances of God, appraised by a valuer whose judgment is righteous, and against whose verdict there is no appeal but that of repentance. You will find no bribery and corruption; everything is sternly real; all men and things are just what they appear to be.

“Guilt must be righteously punished, while the excess of pain which the victim has endured must receive its legitimate compensation. With the punishment we have nothing to do, the natural law of this life is fully adequate to that, and every guilty soul will reap the just harvest of the seed he has sown. It is that we may take part in the compensation that we are here. Justice demands that an instant liberation shall be given from those bonds, and life must be lavished upon the sufferers until we have helped to build up and invigorate their souls, then each one shall reach the full development for which it was designed and for which it wept and struggled, but was prevented by action of oppressors.”

“But where do we find mercy and forgiveness in the administration of such inexorable justice?” I asked.

“Every attribute of God has its legitimate sphere of operation,” he replied, “and the inviolate maintenance of each in its appointed order is essential to the continuance of the almighty and all-wise perfection of our Father, but it is impossible for any one of these to usurp the jurisdiction of another. Suppose, for a moment, that mercy was allowed to withstand justice and prevail in any single instance; the immediate result would be an injustice; since to show mercy to the offender would be an injustice to the offended, unless, in turn, you show him mercy too.

Carry this to its logical sequence and you will be compelled to abolish justice in favour of mercy, in which case punishment and retribution would become an impossibility; law would be a dead letter, and sin, freed from fear or restraint, would revel in its license. But when we see the working of the attributes of God according to His Divinely appointed plan, we find how infinitely wise has been the adaptation to the necessities of the human family in its development.

“Take those to which you have referred - Mercy, Justice, and Forgiveness. Mercy operates on earth, where patience, forbearance, and long-suffering are so much needed during the early stages of the conscious existence of the soul. Imagine the catastrophe and disaster which would ensue if unerring justice was enthroned at such a crisis in life’s history - would there be any subsequent immortality to record? Unconscious, practically, of his whence and whither, an untutored experimentalist as to his powers and capabilities, failure and mistake, the law by which he shall develop and learn to understand himself, uncertain if it be right to gratify even the most ardent of his longings, filled with fear and trembling at the forces surrounding him, a volume of nature before him of nature of whose hieroglyphics he is ignorant though called upon to read, himself the most profound mystery among, the million other problems - under such circumstances, how often would earth be swept clear of man if justice was applied to every transgression of the law; that justice which is perfect as its Framer?

“No! This attribute cannot be applied to such an undeveloped condition; what man could be found wild enough to imagine that it is? Is not rather the absence of justice so manifest as to be used for an argument against the existence of a God, while it has become a proverb among the nations that ‘Villainy is the heir to Fortune, but Honesty marries Miss.’ Oppression, tyranny and persecution are rampant, that ‘Might is Right’ is the universal motto practically both of politics and religion; the affluent and wealthy are the honoured of the nations, the poor and needy, the curse and bane. Is this right you will ask me, and I reply, a thousand times no! But even the injustice of man is not strong enough to cause God to change the action of His attributes, and substitute justice for Mercy upon the earth.

“This universal custom is wrong, and man has gained enough knowledge to know that it is so; but God is long-suffering that the oppressor may be able to redeem himself before he is brought in to judgment. Mercy pleads, while hope of restitution remains; but once let the law take hold of the offender, and the issue passes from the court of Mercy to justice. The mists (The death) marking the boundary line between that state and this also form the vestibule of the hall of judgment, and every soul must pass through and receive its righteous verdict before it enters here. Mercy has no power to cross that threshold; the soul stands alone before that inscrutable tribunal its own witness, its own judge, hence its life deeds pass the sentence from which no appeal is possible.”

“But forgiveness; what of that?” I asked.

“That follows later,” he replied. “The penalties enforced by that Justice are for wrongs committed against your fellow-man; such sins must be redeemed, they are never forgiven, for no one not even God, has power to forgive a trespass against any other than Himself, such being contrary to His own law. When the penalty for sins against his fellow has been righteously discharged then the repentant soul has the power to ask forgiveness for his sin against God, which is always freely granted; but it is requisite that he be first reconciled to his brother, for only ‘he that hath clean hands and a pure heart’ can ascend to the presence of God where Christ will secure his full remission.”

Diary of 2012 Summer Trip (5)

07-23-2012
I visited the Baha’i Garden in Haifa and prayed in the Shrine of The Bab today.

To say the Garden is beautiful does not do justice about the Garden. It’s beautiful beyond description (my description at least).

Beautiful is only part of the characteristics of the Garden and the Shrine, important as it is, it’s not the essence of it. It is like a lamp, the beautiful design of its outward structure is not the essence of the lamp. It is the light that shines through the lamp which makes the lamp luminous and truly beautiful. The same is true about the Baha’i Gardens. Here in Israel, the land is basically desert or semi-desert, some spotted greenery, but mainly yellowish outlook, especially in hot summer sun. And yet out of this desert there appears the most wonderful, the most green and the most shining Garden on the ancient Mount Carmel. When walking on the terraces, a water stream follows every step I took, the sound of which is like a music that makes my walk a dance. Everywhere I look, I can see and feel the spirit shines through every leaf, every flower, every physical structure and every human face. There is inner happiness reflecting from all of them. It is, after all, the symbol and the beginning of the reality of The Kingdom of God on earth as promised ages ago.

Diary of 2012 Summer Trip (4)

7-22-2012
I am waiting at Prague airport to check in and fly to Tel Aviv and then to Haifa.

Life is such a mystery unfolding each day and we don’t know for sure to where it will lead us. It never stops amazing me that I and my whole family would one day come to visit the Holy Land as pilgrims. Growing up in China as atheist, finding God that is believable to me via a Muslim classmate in Prague, then in Rolla Missouri joining Christian church and finally finding my heart desire in Baha’i Faith, the journey traversed half the world and involved more than 15 years of search. We had many aspirations and expectations from life when we were young, many (almost all) proved to be, if not false, at least misperceptions about ourselves and about life. One thing we realized as life proceeding, it is in relation to God that the value of all things is evaluated and determined. At the end of 2007, our whole family came to Haifa Israel as pilgrims for the first time, also the last time as family, which was, in my opinion, our consummate achievement we, as a family, could ever attain.

7-22-2012 evening
I landed in Tel Aviv this afternoon and took sherut to Haifa this evening. The street (Ben Gurion) I am staying at is right in front of Baha'i Garden on Mount Carmel.  The Shrine of the Bab and the terraces are luminous through dark background, which is true in both literal and symbolic sense. It’s hard to believe I am here in this land again, onto which so many historical stories happened and recorded, so many prophecies had been made, so many hopes had been and still be placed and through which all prophecies have been fulfilled, even though not been recognized by the still sleepy populace yet.

This is the Holy and mystic Land.

Diary of 2012 Summer Trip (3)

7-21-2012

We took train from Prague to Ceske Budejovice and dropped Mingway at Townshend International School near Hluboka for a week long summer camp. The school is near the beautiful Schwarzenberg Castle and the whole area is picture like. The students are from around the world. Mingway already made a friend this afternoon: Zinzan from Hamburg of Germany.

While Mingway is in Townshend, I will fly to Israel for a 3-day visit at Baha’i World Center located at Haifa and Akka areas.
